BTEC Level 2 - first person on scene (intermediate)

The BTEC Level 2 First Person on Scene (FPOS) Intermediate is a qualification that teaches how to help someone in a life-threatening situation. It's the minimum medical standard for community first responders and others in close protection and security. This qualification has been developed with the NHS Ambulance Services and is clinically endorsed by the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care.

Core subjects include:

  • Scene safety

  • Minimising the risk of infection

  • Patient assessment

  • Basic life support and automated defibrillation

  • Providing initial emergency patient care

  • Being part of a medical response.

The course syllabus includes the following units:

  • The prehospital environment

  • Patient assessment

  • Respiratory and airway management

  • Basic Life Support

  • Defibrillation

  • Circulation and shock

  • Medical emergencies

  • Trauma-related emergencies
